What separates those who win once from those who win repeatedly?
The answer lies not in talent alone, but in an unrelenting mindset and commitment to growth. Winning isn’t about the trophy—it’s about who you become along the way.
In this final post of the From Falling to Flying series, we’ll explore the long-term journey of success, inspired by Tim Grover’s Winning: The Unforgiving Race to Greatness. Grover’s experience working with elite athletes like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant provides unparalleled insights into what it truly takes to succeed at the highest level.
Let’s tie together the tools and techniques from this series and discuss how resilience and perseverance lead to consistent success!

Winners know they’re going to lose time, friends, money, courage, and strength—but they never lose belief in themselves, because they’re driven to win.
Tim Grover’s Winning introduces the concept of the Four Rings of Winning, a framework for understanding the progressive journey to success.Think of these rings as a bullseye target:

Talent is the foundation for success, but it’s only the starting point. Everyone has some degree of talent, but talent alone is never enough.
Intelligence is the ability to develop and strategically use talent to achieve specific goals. Winners understand how to leverage their abilities effectively.
This ring represents the drive to push beyond limits. True winners aren’t satisfied with mediocrity and have an inherent desire to outperform others.
Resilience is the ability to persevere through challenges and setbacks. It’s the smallest ring but the most critical, separating champions from those who crumble under pressure.
Every setback is an opportunity to grow stronger. Resilience isn’t about avoiding failure—it’s about using it to fuel your growth. Perseverance, like any skill, becomes easier the more you practice it.
This is why the tools from the previous videos—awareness, resetting with success, rituals, and reframing—all contribute to creating a cycle of continuous improvement. Each step builds on the last, making it easier to bounce back stronger each time.

The journey to winning isn’t always enjoyable, but perseverance and resilience will take you where you want to go.
Grover emphasizes that winning comes at a cost. It requires sacrifices in personal relationships, time, and energy. Winners must prioritize their goals, often leading to an unbalanced life. This reinforces the idea that winning isn’t for everyone—it demands a relentless commitment that many aren’t willing to make.
This series has provided books, exercises, and science-backed methods to help you overcome challenges and grow stronger.
The final question is: What’s stopping you from being the winner I know you are?

The journey to winning isn’t always enjoyable—see black eye and busted lip here (picture in video)—but building resiliency and perseverance will lead you to where you want to go.
Winning is a journey, not a destination. It’s built one challenge at a time through resilience, perseverance, and an unrelenting mindset. As this series comes to an end, I hope you feel equipped with the tools to tackle whatever challenges come your way.
Remember, champions are made in the moments they refuse to give up.

Real talk on horse training, riding improvement, and the equestrian life from a CCI3*** eventer who's figured out a few things the hard way.

Professional Amateur Three Day Eventer
Hey, I'm Alyssa! 🤠
Northern California based eventer, Equiband obsessive, and the person behind Hashtag Team Fuego. I have been competing and training horses for over 20 years, bringing approximately 15 horses along from their first show up to the CCI3*** level.
The short version of my story is that I bet everything on horses at 18 and never looked back. The longer version involves a lot of early mornings, a tendon injury that could have ended Fuego's career in 2020, and a comeback that took us to a 4th place CCI3*S finish and the Adult Amateur Reserve Champion title at Intermediate in 2022.
These days I spend my time competing, developing my young homebred prospects, and creating training resources that help everyday equestrians get more out of their horses. The Campfire Chat is where I share what I am learning in real time: the wins, the work, and everything in between.
Grab a drink and pull up a chair to the next campfire chat. 🔥
